Review Boat Trip (2003)

Review The Dead Girl (2006)

Review The Cat in The Hat (2003)

Oh boy! Hither we go over again. I wasn’t the biggest fan of How the Grinch Stole Christmastime. Review Dr. Dolittle (1998)

Add yet another lousy remake to a year full of them. If Lost in Space wasn’t bad sufficiency (it ranks as one of the worst films I’ve ever seen), check tabu this poor let off for a picture, that takes it’s title from the wondrous entrancing Rex Sir Rex Harrison melodic. Dr. Jimmy Doolittle, as directed by Betty Thomas, wHO made the screaming Individual Parts–boasts a huge cast of cameo voices including; Chris Rock, Albert Brooks, and Julie Kavner. None of these ar all that memorable. The only phonation that offers much of anything is Norm McDonald as a lovable digress cur. He offers an occasional witty line.

The problem with Dr. Doolittle, is that it doesn’t provide enough laughs. And it sure enough lacks the originality that made pictures like Look Who’s Talking work. Tied Eddie Irish potato is atrophied in what could own been a pretty enjoyable celluloid. Alternatively, we get a moving picture full of unintelligent bath jokes, that make a running time of less than an hour and a half seem wish an timeless existence.

Enough with the stupid remakes already!

Review Spider-Man (2002)

Before I begin with this review, I must confess, I’ve never been one for comic books. That’s not to say I hatred them. I just never got into them as much as my friends did growing up. Answer to say, I entered Spider-Man (based on the Stan Tsung Dao Lee comic) having never understand the laughable on which the flick is based. Certain, I live the basic history and origins of the fiber, simply I’m hardly an adept on Spidey mythology. It is merely a set up and (like Unbreakable from a twosome of days ago) ends with it’s heron just scantily discovering his destiny. This scarce makes Spider-Man a flop, however. Genuine, I walked out of this image wanting more, but I still had a full time, and uneasily await the inevitable continuation.

Have to aver I’m more a fan of the original than the practically balleyhooed subsequence.

Review Celebrity (1998)

If anyone in the film industriousness knows about being a celebrity, it’s Woody Grace Ethel Cecile Rosalie Allen. It as well lacks the depth of Crimes and Misdemeanors, which is his best film. It as well didn’t help that BranaghÕs performance it too close up to Woody’s own personae.

Still, Famous person is anything but a dud. It’s been a bad year for comedies and this offering is certainly up there with the topper. Allen still knows how to deliver fantastic dialog and coax great performances from a stellar contrive. This is another good film on a outstanding resume.

Review Mumford (1999)

Lawrence Kasdan has always been a favorite of mine. With a resume that includes Silverado, The BIg Chill, The Accidental Tourist, Expansive Canyon, and a co-writing credit for Raiders of the Lost Ark, Kasdan excells in character studies.

Mumford is his low gear film since the lightweight French Kiss and the heavy-handed Sir Thomas Wyat Earp, and it marks a welcome return to quirky characters and upbeat charm. Sofia Scicolone Dean plays beloved psychiatrist Dr. Mumford–a doctor with a brobdingnagian client list who happens to live in the town of Mumford.

The film doesn’t really take a plot of land; instead, it’s more of a series of foreign situations that really seem to work thanks to great writing and needlelike directing. The spectacular shake off includes Dean, Alfre Woodard (Grand Canon), Mary McDonnell (Dances with Wolves), Ted Danson (Cheers), Pruitt Taylor-Vince (Heavy), and David Paymer (City Slickers). The standouts are Hope Davis as the patient that Doyen finds himself drawn to and Jason Lee (Chasing Amy) as a sweet-natured modern mogul.

Kasdan has fashioned a charming, unpredictable slice of life about love, friendship, and second chances. It’s a capital film.

Review Save The Last Dance (2001)

Save the Last Dance is a peculiar small film. Peculiar in the sense that it was cliched in different slipway than I expected it to be. In fact, the dance in the picture seems oddly out of situation. This is really a film or so second chances and a star crossed romance.

In Save the Last Dance, Julia Stiles (10 Things I Hate About You, State and Main) plays a high schooler wHO, following a tragedy, moves into the heart of Chicago to live with her alienated father. At that place, she meets and waterfall for an intelligent thomas Young man (Sean Patrick Dylan Marlais Thomas). Together they try to help each other with the different problems that plague their lives.

Culture clash plays an important role in this picture and, although much of it is obvious, the extremely talented and attractive cast are able to elevate themselves above the stilted dialog and familiar situations. Stiles is a charmer and proves to be a major talent, while St. Thomas emerges as an energetic, charismatic player who also looks to have a bright future. Director St. Thomas Carter introduces a surge of subplots that ne’er fully gel but, at that place are sufficiency sparks between Stiles and Thomas to make their relationship seem real, tied though it seems a bit rush. Save the Last Dance also pulsates with a catchy soundtrack which, will no question, be a major take out for some people.

In the end, Save the Last Dance didn’t proceed me the way it might go others, but it’s wide of well drawn characters. It’s nice to watch a film in which young multitude are not portrayed as brainless, just this film as a whole is all excessively predictable. A forbidden love, trying to make reparation with the estranged father, getting sucked into the gangster life style etc. These are all real life problems, simply Save the Last Dance doesn’t invariably deal with them in a realistic manner. That’s a shame because this is a smart, likeable cast. A cast that deserves a stronger story to showcase their talent.

Review Blood Diamond (2006)

Let’s face the facts: How is Solomon going to sell the stone without Archer’s aid?

Solomon knows that his son Dia’s fate is to become a child soldier and he uses his knowledge of where he buried the pit as leverage with Archer. They join forces to find Defense Intelligence Agency, the stone, and secure Solomon’s family release from the refugee camp.

Archer meets Maddy Bowen (Jennifer Connelly), an American diarist reporting on conflict diamonds. Maddy is quick to size up Archer as a major player in transporting diamonds from the rebels to Amsterdam. Only if with Maddy’s status as a journalist can Archer and Solomon navigate the dangerous rebel-held territory. Being on a Time magazine cover or on CNN seduces even the most cruel maverick leader.

What is really compelling about "Blood Diamond" is DiCaprio’s outstanding performance and practiced African speech pattern. His Sagittarius is an un-redemptive, experient killer slogging through dying for a small spell of rock with a big final payment. Hounsou knows he is playing a one-dimensional fictional character of a good man searching for his logos. Connelly sagely keeps her flirting to a lower limit. While director Edward Zwick can direct epics of this telescope, he has yet to find a screenplay that will galvanize an audience.

What is missing from "Bloodline Diamond" is the consumer. Where were the scenes of picture show stars on the Red Carpet and rap stars in their videos decked out in millions of dollars of diamonds?

Review Flight of The Phoenix (2005)

Based on a novel by Elleston Trevor, music director John Moore’s Flight of the Phoenix is a remake of a 1965 film of the same name leading film ikon James Stewart. The story revolves just about the quandary of Chieftain Frank Towns, a pilot whose C-119 cargo plane full of oil workers could not withstand the violent winds of a desert sirocco. The Captain is constrained to throw a crash landing that is a lot more crash than landing. Stranded in the harsh terrain of Mongolia’s Gobi Forsake (a going from the original, in which the plane crashed in the Sahara), Frank and his navigator face the challenge of survival of the fittest as well as that of maintaining order among a colorful collection of survivors. The rangle gangle crew of oilmen had embarked on a turn mission to shut off a group of rigs that had fallen below their productivity, what they got instead is a harrowing have trying to make it out of the defect alive. Earlier long, we learn which men ar cowards and which have the inner resources to stand strong in the face of adversity. Pretty soon what begins to shape up is a group of men hoping to salvage the reckage amid a situation that fast devolves into a "Master of the Flies" scenario.

While observation the banal parade of remakes and sequels that Hollywood continues to roil out, it makes one wonder if there is really that great a paucity of new or original ideas left in Tinseltown. I’ll admit that I did somewhat enjoy this film, but as I watched it, I couldn’t help but curiosity why all this talent and money couldn’t have been applied to something novel?

Not only have we seen this film literally just figurateively as well, and if it weren’t for the performance of Giovanni Ribisi world Health Organization absolutely salvaged this wreck (so to speak) this film would have been nothing simply a handle for vultures. Thanks to Ribisi’s starring turn, the movie is not only watchable, just even compelling at times - even though the ending is a gone conclusion. Had the conclusion been changed to something less predictable, perhaps the critics mightiness have got on circuit card and praised the plastic film, but in case you hadn’t noticed, Flight of the Genus Phoenix has taken a pretty good savaging by near. The plastic film made me think of a possibility I have about the way films end these days as opposed to the path they did in the 1960’s. A great example is the ending to the original Oceans Eleven as opposed to the way it was wrapped up in the sequel.

Other than Ribisi only Dennis Quaid turns in a respectable performance here - Quaid is a reliable worker and seeing as how he was filling the shoes of the majuscule Jimmy Stewart, it’s non surprising that he stepped up. The two actors lend some much-needed class to this production and between the two they make the film worthy of a middling recomendation. Flight of the Phoenix has a ton of action, even if most of it’s completely predictable - the old bromide of "if anything can go wrong it will and does so frequently." It also has exactly enough humor and unitary or 2 surprises that make it worth renting down the road a few months, or at best a matinee screening at your local discount theater.
